Second Decade of Docklands (Phase 2) Social Research

Client: VicUrban / Melbourne City Council

VicUrban and the City of Melbourne are in the process of developing the Second Decade of Docklands Plan which will guide future development, programs and initiatives in Docklands over the coming decade. The Second Decade of Docklands Plan will be underpinned by a shared vision and will include a series of directions under each of the vision's themes accompanied by priority actions.

The Second Decade of Docklands project has been structured into three phases.

These are as follows:

  • Phase One: focused on the emerging themes;
  • Phase Two: sought to validate the draft shared vision and priority key issues and opportunities; and
  • Phase Three: will see the release of the agreed set of actions.

As part of phase two of the project Capire was engaged by VicUrban and Melbourne City Council to undertake focus groups with hard-to-reach groups. The focus group process included group discussion and self completion exercises to seek feedback from the participants on the draft priority actions. The hard-to-reach groups identified to participate in the focus groups were:

  • Culturally and linguistically diverse;
  • Older people;
  • Youth;
  • People with a disability; and
  • Parents with young children.

A summary of the qualitative and quantitative feedback from the focus groups will be used to inform the final Second Decade of Docklands Plan and to identify priority actions for future planning, development and activities in Melbourne's Docklands.
